Wall & Partition Fire Testing

UKTC provide UKAS accredited fire resistance testing of load bearing and non-load-bearing walls and partition systems to both British (BS) & European (EN) standards.

Products can be tested in a 3 metre wide furnace and up to 5m high at United Kingdom Testing & Certification, allowing manufacturers to prove performance beyond the standard 3x3m furnace tests available elsewhere in the UK.

We are accredited to test to the following standards at our UK based fire resistance laboratory:

Loadbearing v Non-Loadbearing Wall Tests

Loadbearing Wall Fire Testing

To help against collapse or failure of a building, there is a requirement for load bearing systems to have a minimum standard of fire resistance. Such wall or partition wall must maintain the fire integrity and independent structural stability of buildings. The fire resistance of load bearing systems can be demonstrated through destructive fire test evidence.

The measurement for this is called Load-bearing Capacity (R). The walls ability to maintain a load. This is determined by measuring the vertical deflection of the wall.

Non-Loadbearing Wall Fire Testing

The spread of fire within a building can be restricted by using fire resisting walls and partition walls to separate the building into compartments and allow means of escape. The fire resistance of non-load bearing systems can be demonstrated through destructive fire test evidence.
